What you’ll do

As the Major Gifts Associate, you will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, personal solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of donors and prospects to upgrade from Circle of Care ($10,000 - $24,999) to Major Gifts ($25,000+).  You will be report to the Director, Major Gifts and will be responsible for growing this base of donors using a wide range of activities, including donor led stewardship, personal cultivation and solicitation, and essential partner involvement. 

More specifically, you will:

  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of active major gift prospects and donors.
  • Work in collaboration with the Major Gifts team, develop and implement personalized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for individual donors.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the philanthropy team to coordinate strategies with assigned prospects, preparing tailored and personalized proposals.
  • Ensure that your donors receive impeccable and personalized stewardship, through tailored correspondence, reports and updates in a timely and professional manner.
  • Oversee the data management needs by maintaining and properly recording information about prospects and donors utilizing centralized electronic filing system and database.
  • Produce briefing/debriefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to ensure that donor histories are part of the institution’s memory. 
  • Achieve personal annual targets including call counts, solicitations and revenue results.

What you bring

As the successful candidate, you have a diploma or post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g., business, fundraising, and administration) and three years of direct fundraising experience with a proven track record of success or the equivalent combination of related skills and experience.  Holding or working towards your CFRE designation is considered an asset.

In addition to these qualifications, our ideal candidate has:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and professional presence necessary to interact with donors, senior volunteers, senior hospital staff and other stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in building relationships with donors, including successful solicitation of gifts.
  • Exceptional communication (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • A positive outlook and self-starter with inspirational vision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, business acumen, strategic aptitude and sound judgment.
  • Proven success with working across teams in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint). and Raiser’s Edge NXT or other database experience is an asset.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion.
  • A flexible schedule that allows for after-hours events and meetings.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for donor calls.

This position is based in our office located in Vancouver, BC. Due to the pandemic, most of our team is currently working remotely from home until the end of this year. Looking beyond the pandemic, we will be embracing a hybrid work environment where you will have the opportunity to work from home up to 50% of the time.
