Major Giving Manager - Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation

Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Major Giving Manager is Manager is an integral part of our fun and dynamic team at Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation whose mandate it is to raise funds for Delta Hospital using a donor-focused approach. The primary responsibility of the Major Giving Manager is to cultivate, solicit and steward major individual ($5000+), corporate and private family foundation donors.

The successful candidate will also participate in planning and implementation for the annual strategic plan and budget and be responsible for the execution of the major gifts and planned giving program and all related initiatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Fundraising Activities

  • Set specific donor and financial goals for fundraising initiatives, including the renewal and upgrading of existing donors, and identification and acquisition of new donors
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and implement a multi-year strategy for increased major gifts (increase in number of donors as well as increased contributions from current donors)
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to deliver an effective planned giving strategy
  • Organize a systematic and strategic approach to the identification and cultivation of allied professionals for the Planned Giving Program
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the major giving strategies and revise as necessary to maximize the impact
  • Develop and implement comprehensive plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors and prospects and develops and manages a portfolio of major gift prospects; meets donors and potential prospects on a one-on one basis
  • Undertake prospect research and necessary grant writing to solicit from current and newly identified corporate and private family foundation donors
  • Attend educational and professional seminars and conferences to stay aware of trends and innovations in fund development
  • Gain an understanding of varied giving vehicles and the tax aspects of giving vehicles (eg. securities, property, bequests)

Donor Relations

  • Maintain a high profile in the community through active involvement in community and social organizations to promote support for the Foundation’s vision, mission and programs
  • Maintain accurate records of donors, donor/prospect meetings and track activities weekly
  • Coordinate gift recognition for Circle of Friends and Partners for Tomorrow donor clubs as well as corporate donors and private family foundations
  • Ensure appropriate donor recognition, acknowledgement and stewardship programs are in place (including tours, luncheons, seminars and any special recognition event)
  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of donors, colleagues and volunteers
  • Collaborate closely with other team members and volunteers to ensure a coordinated, donor centric approach to gift opportunities

Administration

  • Collaborate with the Communications Specialist on publications and other written materials for major gifts
  • Represent DHF on all matters regarding fundraising for priority equipment needs of the hospital
  • Attend staff meetings, on or offsite staff retreats and other development related meetings

  • Evidence of initiative, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Code of Conduct
  • Ability to work outside regular work hours, if required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional growth and education
  • Familiarity with Imagine Canada – Grant Connect database
  • 5 + years of relevant work experience in the not-for-profit sector, combined with a university degree, or related college program
  • Competency with computer/software including database management (Raiser’s Edge), Outlook and Microsoft Office
