Fund Development Specialist - PLEA Community Services Society of BC
PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a Full-Time Excluded Fund Development Specialist for our Communications & Development team. The proposed start date for this position is September 3rd, 2019. This position is excluded from union membership.
The incumbent is responsible to identify, plan and implement fundraising strategies for KidStart, a life-changing mentorship program that provides vulnerable children with a nurturing relationship, a chance to have fun and a sense of belonging.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and implements strategic and annual fund development and communication plans for KidStart that achieve annual fundraising targets.
- Develops and manages a prospect pool based on KidStart's fundraising priorities and projects. Identifies and executes prospect strategies for solicitation of donors at the $5-50k level.
- Researches, builds and stewards philanthropic relations with individuals, foundations, and corporations in the communities served by KidStart to secure contributions and achieve fundraising targets.
- Strategizes, coordinates and executes plans to move donors through the various stages of gift consideration and towards a contribution of significant support for KidStart initiatives.
- Develops sponsorship packages, identifies and secures sponsors for sponsorship opportunities, and ensures fulfillment of sponsorship agreements.
- Oversees the successful delivery of key events within the KidStart calendar. Supervises and directs the employees and volunteers engaged in the delivery of these events.
- Drafts case statements, call plans, presentations, briefing notes, marketing materials, budgets and funding proposals for use in fund development strategy, gift cultivation and solicitation, and KidStart awareness activities.
- Assists KidStart employees to prepare for donor visits. Supports and trains KidStart employees to develop their own relationships with donors. Champions fundraising and a culture of philanthropy within the program and across the wider agency.
- Make presentations to community groups, corporations, individuals and other community partners to promote the organization, raise awareness of the benefits of volunteering / mentoring, and inspire giving to the KidStart program.
- Maintains records, reports, and documentation pertaining to fund development activities for KidStart that are accurate, complete, and in compliance with PLEA's policies and procedures. Prepares and presents written and oral reports to the Communications & Development Manager, Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of KidStart's and the agency's fundraising needs in order to match the interests and needs of prospective donors with the fundraising needs of KidStart and the wider agency.
- Ensures KidStart's fundraising and communication efforts are integrated and streamlined with those of the wider agency. Ensures opportunities are pursued in a manner that results in maximum impact for the agency.
- Participates in strategic planning and budget setting for the function and for the KidStart program. Implements resulting plans, policies, procedures, and systems for areas of responsibility. Supports and supervises program staff to do the same. Monitors effectiveness and makes any changes required.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures established by PLEA, Imagine Canada standards and Canada Revenue Agency regulations. Meets the performance expectations of the position in a manner that demonstrates compassion and respect for all. Exercises the responsibilities of the position in a manner consistent with the philosophical approach and mandate of the agency.
- Performs other related duties as required and/or as directed by the supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency's regulations, Imagine Canada standards and BC Gaming Commission regulations.

Qualifications, Education and Experience
- University degree in a discipline relevant to the work of the position plus four years' experience in a professional fundraising role.
- Accreditation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), or working towards designation, is preferred.
- Demonstrated record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding gifts.
- Experience designing fund development strategies, setting goals, creating and implementing action plans, and evaluating the process and results.
- Experience preparing fundraising proposals, budgets, grants, letters, appeals and stewardship materials.
- Experience conducting presentations to small and large audiences.
- Experience in creating and implementing new and unique ways of fundraising.
- Experience supervising employees and volunteers.
- Experience using fundraising databases. Specific experience using Income Manager, Gift Tool and Canada Helps is considered an asset.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Experience working in not-for-profit and/or community organization focused on the issues of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance.
- Use of personal vehicle. This position requires travel in the Lower Mainland.
- A valid B.C. Driver's License (Class 5 or Class 7), and suitable driver's abstract.
- Flexible schedule based on 37.5 working hours per week. Usual hours of work are a standard workweek from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to attend events.
