ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
Learning Disabilities Society (LDS) is a growing, innovative, research-based, non-profit organization serving children with Learning Challenges. In collaboration with UBC, we offer evidence-basedprograms that target student-specific learning needs. Our programs and services operate from our Learning Centers in East Vancouver and North Vancouver, as well as from 8 Satellite School locations – currently serving approximately 200 students in total. We provide sustainable, affordable and individualized programs to ensure that all children have an opportunity to realize
their full potential.

Through early intervention, we support students at a critical time in their life, leading to profound, positive change in student life outcomes. As we scale up our organization we move closer to achieving our ultimate goal to effect system change with material and wide-ranging societal benefits. Our goal is to ensure that no student is left behind.

The organization is governed by a seven-member board of directors (Board), employs nine full and part-time staff and approximately 25-30 full and part-time instructors, and is poised to enter an exciting phase, being well-respected by funders, partners and community and positioned for growth. LDS is seeking a new Executive Director (ED) who will help raise its profile, expand its presence and programs within all communities it serves, and help develop and set future-focused strategic priorities.

Job Requirements

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PROFILE

The ED is the key operational position responsible for the overall success of LDS who will provide effective leadership and manage organizational planning, administration, stakeholder relations, revenues and finance, implementation of the strategic plan, and programming scaling. As a highly strategic and innovative thinker, the new ED will be able to leverage established methodologies and relationships to scale operations, engage in targeted advocacy and forge new partnerships. Specifically, developing and maintaining relationships with school boards and other institutional actors as part of a deliberate and long-term advocacy strategy, as well as the development and implementation of a plan to secure new sources of capital and the development of a long-term, financially sustainable growth strategy will be high priorities for the new ED.

The new ED will be an inclusive leader and coach who is confident, perceptive, insightful, decisive, and persuasive while remaining flexible, adaptable, and politically astute. The successful candidate will have a track record of building high performing teams and cultures and will ensure that LDS implements effective recruitment and retention practices to attract and engage the skilled human capital needed for the envisioned growth.

Politically savvy, highly collaborative and having exceptional interpersonal skills, the new ED will be an authentic, transparent, and engaging communicator, and an excellent listener, presenter, and public speaker. With these skills, it is expected that this person will be exceptional at building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, getting buy-in to new ideas, and leading and managing change. The ideal candidate will possess 7+ years of broad senior leadership experience, an understanding of governance practices, and will have a successful track record of developing and implementing a strategy that led to diversified funding and long-term financial sustainability. Knowledge, experience and existing networks in the education sector and government relations are an asset.

  • Accountability: The Executive Director is directly accountable to the Board of Directors.
  • Salary: Anticipated range of $100k - $110k + benefits, dependent on qualifications.
  • Hours of work: The standard work week is 40 hours and additional evening, weekends, and overtime hours as needed to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at public events.
